Massey University - Ngā Huia Veterinary School

Ngā Huia is a landmark $70 million veterinary research and teaching facility located on the Manawatū campus of Massey University. Designed to support world-class education and innovation, the building brings together leading researchers, academics, and students in a purpose-built environment focused on advancing animal health and welfare in New Zealand.

BFG were appointed via a competitive tender process to deliver a complete furniture solution for the facility. The objective was to create a cohesive, highly functional environment that would support laboratory research, academic work, and collaborative student learning while maintaining durability and flexibility across a wide variety of specialised spaces.

Working closely with the Massey University project team, we delivered a comprehensive end-to-end furniture package across the entire facility. Our scope included the supply and installation of workstations, screens, task seating, laboratory seating, meeting tables and chairs, office storage solutions, and lockers.

In addition to the core workplace furniture, we also supplied café and breakout furniture to support informal collaboration and social interaction throughout the building. Custom soft seating pieces were incorporated into shared areas to create comfortable spaces for students and researchers to connect, study, and collaborate.

The building itself houses advanced laboratories supporting specialist disciplines including Pathobiology and Infectious Diseases, the Animal Welfare Science and Bioethics Centre, and research focused on production, working, and native animal health. These spaces are complemented by modern academic and postgraduate offices, alongside dedicated student collaboration and study zones. Our furniture selections were carefully considered to ensure each space supported its specific function while contributing to a unified overall design.

 

Ngā Huia represents a significant investment in the future of veterinary research and education in New Zealand. The completed facility provides a modern, flexible environment that supports both focused scientific work and collaborative learning.

Through the delivery of a tailored furniture solution across laboratories, offices, and shared spaces, BFG helped create a cohesive and high-performing workplace that enhances research capability, supports students and academics, and contributes to the long-term success of the facility.
